Grasshopper Solar Breaks Ground in Sudbury
Grasshopper Solar, the first and largest Canadian Company to deliver turnkey solar power solutions for the OPA microFIT program, announces today that they have established new operations in Sudbury for Northern Ontario. “After evaluating multiple cities, Sudbury became the logical choice based on its central location, highly skilled work force, and its legacy and commitment to be more environmentally conscious” said Mike Gow, VP of Business Development at Grasshopper Solar. In addition, Grasshopper Solar will be breaking ground in Copper Cliff this week to install their first ground-mounted solar power system in the area. “Sudbury is going to play a big part in the future of solar installations where families and business have the excess land to deploy such systems".
Grasshopper Solar recognizes the strong market demand for Solar Power Systems to make Ontario a world leader in the renewable energy sector and is working with local business and land owners to educate and help them adopt the technology. Grasshopper Solar’s Solar Power Systems boasts the highest ROI available; where other systems promote an average of 10% ROI, Grasshopper Solar provides 15% ROI. “This is the reason I chose Grasshopper Solar, they know what they are doing, and I know I can get the best rate of return in the industry. I am excited about this project and feel good about reducing our carbon footprint” said Jesse Peters, project owner.
Grasshopper Solar's strategic operation comes after its recent announcement where Grasshopper Solar created over 50 jobs across Ontario and now will look to add 10 additional team members from the Sudbury area immediately to accelerate their regional expansion. Grasshopper Solar continues to build its turnkey energy portfolio across all market sectors (residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and rural) in Ontario to help their clients take advantage of the OPA’s FIT and microFIT program. About Grasshopper Solar Grasshopper Solar provides turnkey solar power system solutions across Ontario helping their customers in the residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and rural market sectors profit from the Ontario Power Authority’s (OPA) Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and microFIT programs. About OPA microFIT Program The microFIT Program is a stream of the Ontario Power Authority’s (OPA) Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program for renewable energy in Ontario. It is intended to encourage the development of “microscale” renewable energy projects across the province. Owners of these projects will be paid a fixed price for the electricity they produce. Prices are set at a level intended to enable project owners to recover the costs of the projects, as well as to earn a reasonable return on their investment over the term of the contract. For small solar power systems installed in Ontario equal to or less than 10 kilowatts (kW) the government will pay the system owner at a rate of 80.2 cents ($0.802) for every kilowatt hour (kWh) and 64.2 cents ($0.642) per kWh the system produces for a guaranteed term of 20 years.
