Solar Panels and a Snow Storm...

Aren’t snowstorms amazing? They shut down cities, cancel school, cancel public events, wreak havoc with traffic and generally make life difficult. I often get a question about how snow affects solar panels and your solar power system in Ontario?

Check out the link on our website, http://www.grasshoppersolar.com/solar-panel-systems-multimedia

The system in question is in Mississauga where snow depth ranged from 12.5cm to 18.3 cm. On Thursday while everybody was digging out from Wednesday’s storm this solar power system was making money! If you look closely at the pictures you can see that the snow slid off and melted off on its own.

Why do I point this out? Many people think solar panels in Ontario won’t work because of the weather. These pictures are proof that the systems do work.

In Australia we don't have snow storms but the general public are afraid that solar panels do not generate any power in the shade - similar to the case in Canada, but a tad different. The solar panels will still continue to generate power.
